So, at four in the morning I get woken up by my cell phone. It was set to vibrate (no idea how that managed to wake me up, but whatever, it did); by the time I woken up enough to figure out what that strange buzzing noise was, it had stopped. I look at the phone. It's my mom. I wait a few minutes and, sure enough, there's a message. So, all anxious ('cause there has to be a really good reason as to why she's calling me at such a strange time), I check the message.

Can I please pick her up one of the cast-iron pots that are going to be on sale today?

My mother is special.

Yes, yes, so I am slowly coming to understand the thrill that is facebook. Who knew battling with bunnies could keep me entertained for so long? Although, I have yet to actually go through the photos on my computer, so sadly there isn't really much 'face' to my facebook at the moment.

Anyone wanting to add me as a friend will find me under Jana M. Evensong. *shrugs* It's half my real name.

Otherwise I suppose there isn't much interesting to report. I mean, spring came with a flourish of 24 degree temperatures and lots of glorious sun. Also, the mice seem to be gone, 'cause I haven't seen any in a while. Thankfully.

As far as my fics go, the first part of the next chapter of "Prophecy of the Four" is at my beta's and the second part is nearly done (altogether it's almost 50 pages). Hopefully, I should be able to post the first part soon.

My mom and I went through the first 6 episodes of Torchwood last night. It was fun.

I have now caught THREE freakin' mice in the apartment! And no, they weren't blind. At least I don't think they were... who am I kidding? I don't care if they were, but they are now all very much dead.

I have all sorts of food and shit that used to be in my pantry now all over the coutertops, because I refuse to put food anywhere where I know there are mice. This is beyond disgusting.

Anyone want to lend me a cat for the weekend? I promise it'll be well fed. =D

My eee arrived in Ottawa last week!!! It was very exciting until I realized that because Canada Computers sent it via courier instead of Canada Post and I wasn't home when they arrived, I couldn't just go to the nearest post office to pick it up. Their offices? In the middle of freakin' nowhere with really bad bus connections! So basically, I spent an afternoon getting there and then back. At least it was really, really nice out so I didn't mind the walking I had to do.

But I finally tested it out today and I love it! Especially once I managed to figure out what I was doing (aka. what I was doing wrong).

Other than that, I had an absolutely 'wonderful' start to the day when my sister discovered a mess in our cupboard. I've always wanted to live with mice!
So, I cleaned out the cupboard, threw out some chocolate and the landlord came by with some mouse traps and some sort of sonic device that's supposed to keep mice away. He also cemented up the hole I'd found. Earlier this evening, my sister found a very much dead furry grey thing caught in one of the traps.

It was hillarious- she stayed in her room, on the other side of the kitchen and refused to go anywhere near the thing. Apparently this studious biology student refuses to have anything to do with anything dead unless it smells of formaldehyde.

Btw, I now have a facebook. Yes, finally.

Hm, apparently I'm not getting any better about this whole updating my lj more regularily thing.

Anyway, the next chapter of my Prophecy fic is almost done. I think I remember saying it was going to be a shorter chapter, 'cause it's mostly a bunch of smaller scenes and one big one...... Yeah right! It's totally the longest one so far. Don't know how that happened, but I'll try to shorten it up a bit before subjecting my unfortunately betas to it. The only thing left to write is the big, long important scene. Which, ironically enough, should be the easiest and fastest one to write, 'cause it's the most exciting one. Come to think of it, why am I writing it last?

Once that chapter's done I promise, promise to finally get around to finishing my Q fic. I'm ashamed at how long it's taking me to finish it.

Oh, in other news, my birthday's this week. And my dad decided to be really, really nice and send me birthday money early. So, I went and ordered my present today- an eee pc. Finally, I can write my fanfics and talk to people online anywhere! Although, to be honest, I think I'm going to miss my notebook and pen. There's just something classically romantic about writing in a notebook- even if it is all funky green and red stripes and the pen writes in purple ink.

And the snow's starting to melt. I'm actually finding myself avoiding mud instead of ice on my way to work. It's a nice change. I can't wait to completely ditch the winter boots and jacket.

It's March, two weeks 'till Easter. So, NATURALLY, we get hit with 41 cm of snow. I love living in Canada, really I do. Although, at least I didn't have to dig myself out of the driveway or out of my apartment since my landlord happened to come 'round to shovel everything about 10 minutes before I had to leave for work. And most people seemed to be taking everything with a good mood (the grumpy ones apparently stayed home today).

I've been trying to work on my fic during the past week, but dammit, it's just not working. I start, write a few sentences, and get distracted. It's annoying really. It is slowly starting to come together, though, so I guess that's something.

Otherwise, it's my dear little sister's birthday tomorrow. We're going out to dinner/early supper to celebrate. Oh, and I promised to bake brownies (on the theory that I kinda want to make brownies and she'll have a regular cake later at home, plus she can take the brownies with her to her study session tomorrow night).

Are all cats insane, or do I just get stuck with the crazy ones?

My sister's friend had to leave suddenly for a few days to go to a funeral, so we're cat-sitting Pickles, her kitten. She's adorable, but insane. She also has a bell, which is nice for being able to figure out where she is, but damn annoying when you have to listen to it all day as she runs around the apartment. If I ever get a cat, it's most definitely NOT getting a bell on its collar.

Other than that, I'm waiting for the next Torchwood episode to get uploaded, so I can watch it. Very excited for that. Unfortunately, that also means I'm at the end of my lovely mini-vacation from work. Which was sort of nice, even if it did mean I have almost no hours. I spend most of the weekend at home and watched lots of Doctor Who.

And finally took down the Christmas tree. Yes, they still had a Christmas tree up at my mom's house.

Also, our dog got chipped. Yup, we took him to the vet on Monday and they stuck a microchip under his skin so that if he gets lost they can just scan him and figure out who he belongs to. Kinda neat. Took them about 5 minutes and the crazy dog didn't even notice.

Thus is my life.

OK, so having extra time off is kinda nice. But enough is enough. Bleh. My hours at work have been cut so drastically that this week and next week I only have 3 shifts. And get this, after this Thrusday I basically have an entire week off work. Which would be nice IF I ACTUALLY HAD SOMETHING TO DO. Up 'till now I've just spent so much time working that I almost didn't really mind not having any friends I could hang out with in this city.

Now, I'm really feeling it.

Seriously, this is ridiculous. Tomorrow I'm going to Starbucks to apply for a job. I don't really want to leave Sears, so hopefully I can do the two-job juggle. Also, rent money is essential. And food.

However. .. today I found out the most exciting new ever:

SEASON 2 OF TORCHWOOD AIRS JANUARY 16TH!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sooo excited!!

The Starbucks that grew up overnight in the Best Buy parking lot (no, seriously, it really felt that way) is hiring people for daytime positions. I may go check that out.

Oh my God! It's horrible! CBC isn't showing the Doctor Who Christmas Special this year!! Gaah.

I guess that means I'll have to download it on Boxing Day when I get home from work. But, how could they do this to me? I was looking forward to watching it. Geez.

Dec. 24th, 2007 @ 11:22 pm Merry Christmas!
Current Location: Nepean, Ont.
Current Mood: drained
Wow, Christmas came so fast this year! I can't remember having such a hectic one in a long time. . . mind you, it's also the first one I've worked through in the past couple of years. But it was still kinda fun. I baked cookies (including Welsh Cakes, which everyone loves), got all my cards sent out ON TIME and helped with dinner. Hell, I think I did most of dinner on my own with help from others. At least it felt that way.

So, my main Christmas festivities are over now. Basically, my brother's trying to order some games online (boxing day shopping two days before boxing day is a bit odd as far as I'm concerned, but whatever), my mom's asleep in her big comfy chair and my sister's AWOL. Possibly she's already asleep.

Anyway, the coolest presents this year came from my brother. For sure, we'll have tons of fun tomorrow testing out the remote control K-9 he got from mom and the remote control dalek he got for mom by chasing the dog around the kitchen. My sister also got an alarm clock that makes weird sci-fi noises and then runs away from you when you try to turn it off. It's hilarious. I got a sonic screwdriver. And a USB plasma ball, which serves absolutely no useful purpose, but looks really, really cool.

Hope everyone else has a great Christmas tomorrow/today, depending on where you are. I'll be sending presents out sometime next week to Halifax. Or possibly the week after. All depending on how crazy it'll be. I work Boxing Day at 6:30 am. THAT should be loads of fun.

Merry Christmas!!

Nov. 22nd, 2007 @ 09:54 am Hey, white stuff!
Current Mood: accomplished
So, I woke up yesterday morning and glanced out the window (I live in a basement apartment), and went "Hang on, is that ground white?" Yup, it snowed. Wasn't snowing when I got up, mind you, and by the end of the day when I walked home it was all pretty much melted away. But our first snowfall arrived.

Today, there's more snow. I heard we're supposed to get up to 15 cm during today and I think that might easily happen. Really wish I didn't have to go to work at one. But at least I finally got my winter coat and boots here from my mom's place on Tuesday.

Other than snow, I've had 'fun' fiddling with my computer. My downloads were being ridiculously slow, 'cause I couldn't get past my computer's firewall well enough. So last night I set up a static IP address on my computer and opened up a port for Azureus to download through. I'm very proud of myself and even if it didn't help much (my NAT's ok now, but the things still ain't downloading fast enough), I managed to do it without too much of a headache or screwing up my computer in the process.
It helped that there was this great site with step-by-step instructions, lol.

Oooh, and it's the complany Christmas party this weekend! I'm very excited for that. Haven't had the chance to dress up in a while, plus there are lots of people going. Mostly from my store. Should be fun.

Blah, have I already mentioned how much I don't want to go to work today?

Well, not much, just a few flurries really. But, I think mid-November is a fair time to get excited about snow. Especially when you get the dubious honour of listening to Christmas carols all day at work. One thing's for sure: it's definitely cold out now.

But now I have coffee, stuffed breads from the bakery that's on my way home, cheap Lindt chocolate and new shoes. New shoes are definitely worth getting excited for. Especially ones that look and feel as comfy as the ones I bought. Yay!

Now if I could get my downloads to go faster, I'd be set. =D

Plus, my dad randomly sent me money two days ago on account of my brother's birthday, so tomorrow after work I'm going to buy baking supplies. I think I'm going to bake gingerbread at some point in time soon. . . or at least make the dough for it.

You know, I thought they were talking about NOT doing daylight savings time this year since the US wasn't either. . .  Not that I'm actually complaining.  I mean, an extra hour of sleep is an extra hour of sleep, although I'm sure it would've been more meaningful if I was working today.  But having the day off isn't something I'm about to complain about either.  Looks gorgeous out too.

Question is, will I let my sister drag me out to the St. Laurent mall today?  I cringe at the thought of spending my day off at the same place I spend every single other day at, but my sister hasn't been there yet and doesn't even know how to get there.  I suppose I could do some pre-Christmas shopping browsing. . .

Speaking of Christmas!  We're already playing Christmas music at the store!!!  I was off Wednesday and Thursday and then come in on Friday and am hit with this barrage of red and gold (the Sears Christmas colours).  The little plushies we sell every year are out on the counters, we have boxes, Christmas gift cards, wrapping paper and music!  I mean, I like Christmas and carols and all, but it's only the first week of freakin' November!!  Geez.

*Sigh*  Maybe I'll buy baking supplies with my paycheque this week and start on some cookies.  I like cookies.

Sorry to everyone if I haven't been online much lately.  My computer's being a pain.  Went through a couple of days where it seriously seemed to freeze every ten minutes. . . usually when I wasn't even actively using it (like when I had to cut the power at 6 am, 'cause I went to check why after 5 hours it still hadn't gone to screen saver mode).  I ran spybot and now the problem seems to be gone. Hopefully.  Otherwise, MSN hasn't been letting me sign in, which is why I'm not online as often.  Don't know why.

Anyway, I now have a bed that doesn't deflate and doesn't change shape when people sit on it.  It's rather exciting.  And it's full-size, so after that tiny inflatable thing it feels so huge!

In other news, I had a super awesome anime marathon on my day off this week. Started watching a new anime called Eyeshield 21. I'd heard of it before, but at first  was kinda hesitant to try it since it's about a Japanese high school football team. But after enjoying Prince of Tennis and Buzzer Beater, I decided to give it a shot.  It's awesome!!!  I now know sooo much about football, it's kinda sad.  What's also kinda sad is how many episodes of it I managed to watch between Wednesday night when it finally finished downloading and Thursday night.

Thanksgiving came and went and now it feels like autum is really here.  All of September somehow just seemed like an extended summer, last weekend just seems like a breaking point and now I'm putting away my sandals and getting out my jackets. Having said that, it was isn't a bad day today, although the morning was chilly. It just somehow felt like autum in a way it hasn't really yet. Maybe 'cause the fall I'm used to from Halifax is much damper and rainier (although, when is it NOT raining in Halifax?).

I'm off tomorrow and plan to pretty much lounge around in my pyjamas all day. ..  possibly shower somewhere in there and then change into more pyjamas. And write - I really feel like I want to be creative. Maybe I'm just feeling listless, like the months of having no one to socialize with is finally catching up with me.

I get paid on Friday and Saturday afternoon, I'm gonig to buy a bed. It's very exciting and kinda sad that it's the first time in a long while that I'll have a real bed in an apartment I lease.  I'm looking forward to it.
Also, Chapters has the next book of "Wild Adaptor". I can't wait to read it.

But right now I need coffee.

Okay, so after much delay (landlord still fixing up the apartment), frustration (over trying to set up my wireless network on my own), tireless labour (a desk should NOT take four hours to assemble!) and just plain laziness (oooh, so many anime episodes to catch up on!!), I'm finally back.

The new apartment is finally looking like an apartment, although our lack of furniture is annoying. When I get paid next week I'll start looking around for new stuff. Some shelves and drawers and such.  And a bed. Definitely a bed. Sleeping on my brother's super-awesome one has spoiled me. And it's a queen-size, so my tiny inflatable twin mattress is totally not safisfying.

As for work, I've been getting full-time hours lately, which I don't think will change coming up to Christmas, so I may stay put for now unless I see something completely awesome.  Like, for instance, if the comic book shop on Bank St. was hiring. I have much love for the comic book shops on Bank St. One of them supplied me with pretty much all my Demon Diary books and the other randomly had book 3 of Petshop of Horrors, which you can't even get on the Tokyopop website. I can't wait to have money again so that I can buy more of PoH. Also, the next book of Wild Adaptor should be coming out this month.

Within the next few weeks I think I'll finally get around to creating myself a Facebook account, 'cause communicating through livejournal just doesn't seem to be working quite so well anymore. So this might turn into my anime/manga rantspace, plus a place to post my fanfiction. Speaking of which, the next chapter of "Prophecy of Four" is nearly done, I just have to type it up. Most of it's gotten written at work on my lunch hours.

Right now, I think there's a guiness in the fridge calling for me. Ciao.

I got my hair cut yesterday!! It's so exciting to have it short again. And I really, really loved the girl who cut it - she seemed to be tackling it like you would a work of art and she was clearly having fun. So, I think I'll be going back to her next time I want it cut. I was going to take pictures to post here, but then my digital camera died on me. Hopefully this is the result of crappy batteries and not that it's actually dead (I tried two different sets of batteries, including the ones that were inside, but my rechargeables need to get charged and the charger's at the new apartment).

I think the world is conspiring against me moving into the new apartment. All three of us have today off, but just as I was thinking "excellent, everything's working out for today, it's perfect", my mom announces she's having a dinner party with some people from work. So, she doesn't want to go anywhere. Next weekend she's taking off as her vacation, but she's going to Toronto to visit my brother. Sometimes, I really, really wish I had a driver's license. . . I wonder how much it would cost to just hire a mover. Might be the easiest way to do this in the end.

But we're definitely getting internet on Wednesday, so I may just be moving in with the little stuff that's already there at that point in time. And once we get internet I will at least be able to communicate with people again.

I seriously am starting to get bored out of my mind here.

Gah, in a few hours I'm leaving to take the first shipment of stuff down to the new apartment.  It's only a car-load, basically just what I'd need if I was going to go spend a few days there (which I will be on Thursday since they're coming to connect our internet).  We're renting a U-Haul and moving the rest of the stuff next week when my mom's on vacation.

This is my last post before I have to turn my computer off in order to pack it up.  It has to be at the apartment for Thursday when they connect the internet, so sadly I'll have only sporadic internet access for the next week or so. *sigh*  What can you do?
